Russia may raise flax fiber production to 200,000 tns by 2030
PROVERZHENKA VILLAGE, Smolensk Region, Jul 31 (PRIME) -- Russia plans to raise production of flax fiber to 200,000 tonnes in 2030 from 39,000 tonnes produced in 2017, Pyotr Chekmaryov, head of the crop farming department, said on Tuesday.
“We have worked out a plan with the Industry and Trade Ministry until 2030. Our strategic goal is to produce up to 200,000 tonnes of flax fiber,” he said, adding that the ministry expects the sowing area for flax to rise to 166,700 hectares from 45,200 hectares in 2017.
This year the sowing area for flax shrank to 44,500 hectares. “Of course, we understand that there were problems with seeds as people have lost faith in prospects of flax growing, but I think that we should stock up on high-quality seeds this year and get ready,” Chekmaryov said.
